Our story
More than 35 years, the same recipes, the same few blocks.
Named for the coastal city of Nha Trang — and cooking its food in Jersey City since the 1980s.
Three generations of the same family have run this kitchen: first as Nha Trang Place, later as New Thanh Hoai, and today back under the original name on Grand Street. Whatever the sign said out front, the recipes never changed — they are the same hand-written ones carried over from Vietnam more than thirty-five years ago.
Nothing here is built for speed. Beef bones go into the phở pot the night before. Pork is grilled to order over charcoal. Herbs are cut when the plate leaves the pass. It is the cooking a Jersey City neighborhood has grown up on — and the reason regulars keep coming back a generation later.
